CURIOUS: A Community Movement Experience
Frolicking together, but make it meaningful… Originally called, Mindful Movement, this playshop began four years ago as a way to encourage curious people to DANCE without booze and to meaningfully connect with their bodies and one another. This experience is a unique journey towards creative and liberated self-expression and community connection. Through a series of somatic invitations participants are supported to first, build a loving and listening relationship with the whole self, particularly the body. And then, to expand that awareness out to create playful, authentic connection with one another. The overarching intention is to gently guide participants to move and engage how it feels supportive, inspiring, nourishing, joyful, celebratory, and pleasant for THEM to move and engage. This workshop blends gentle, intuitive stretching, mindfulness, somatic awareness exercises, breath, body percussion/tapping, authentic relating practices, and freeform dance and encourages participants to move at their own pace, alongside whatever is present for them. The results can be – accessing the wisdom of the body, emotional release, joy, playfulness, authentic connection to self and others, peacefulness, and nervous system regulation/co-regulation.This experience draws inspiration from many sources like yoga, Qi Gong, mindfulness and somatic therapy traditions, modern dance, improvisational techniques, 5Rhythms, Authentic Relating, ecstatic dance, and more. Please dress to move and bring a mat or towel for the laying and sitting part of this experience. You’re also welcome to bring any props you like to dance with.
