Contact Staff, Full Body Foundations
In this workshop we will learn how a Contact staff moves in relationship to our body. We will cover combos that are based on travel direction and spinning direction. This will help us understand the dynamics of the contact staffs movement. We will learn how we can integrate our legs into our patterns. This can be done by finding pathways between our hands and feet.Kinetic Energy and Gravity make Contact Staff possible, when we use our whole body we have more space to create connections. When we connect with our body and the space around us we are able to ground ourself and find balance. We are connected to our planet and our props through movement.
Contact Staff, Fishtail Fundamentals
In this Contact Staff Class we will discuss Reverse and Forward Fishtails. Fishtails can give us more control of our staffs. At first they can be difficult but they are very rewarding. They allow you to connect different tricks together to create nonstop movement. The fishtail makes it possible to dance with your staff because it gives you a way to catch it while keeping it moving. We will learn how when we turn with our fishtails we can change their spinning direction, this gives us even more control. We will also learn how to add rolls and propellers to our fishtail patterns. We will explore fish-wings and learn how they can help you create connections. We will also learn how to use foot fishtails in our patterns. Just keep swimming and join us for some fun. During the class we will come together to learn some simple group choreography that will allow us to make shapes with our Dragon Staffs. This group Choreography can be used in the Fire circle to create a stunning display for the audience.
